There is a certain kind of photographer. You've met them, or perhaps you are them. Someone who believes that the act of winding film should feel like something and should carry the small ceremony of intention. It is for exactly this person that the Hasselblad V-System winding knob was made. Cat #44024 was machined in Göteborg with the quiet Swedish conviction that a thing worth doing is worth doing in metal.
In a single, satisfying rotation it advances the film and cocks the shutter. That sounds simple until you consider that Hasselblad engineers in the 1960s apparently decided that even this deserved precision tolerances, a leatherette inlay, and a silver accent ring. It's as though the camera's own geometry demanded a flourish at the end of each frame.
It fits the 500C, 500C/M, 503CX, and their kin. However, it'll politely decline the 503CW and the motorized EL bodies, because some classics have standards. Large hands and cold winters may find it unforgiving, which is either a design flaw or a character test.
Today, boxed and near-mint, it's a bargain for a philosophy. There will always be photographers who choose the winding knob over the rapid crank the way certain writers choose fountain pens over keyboards: not despite the friction, but because of it.
