The Holly Hobbie* Camera is a Hong Kong-born, 126-cartridge toy from 1978 that looked you square in the eye and said, "I'm a real camera," with the same conviction a child uses to insist their cardboard box is a spaceship.

Licensed through American Greetings and dressed in teal polystyrene, it wears rigid, non-collapsing bellows, mimicking the folding cameras of proper photographers without any of their pretensions.

Its single plastic meniscus lens (fixed at f/11, shooting somewhere between 1/60th and 1/100th of a second) is said to produce a sweet central sharpness ringed by vignetting and spherical aberration.

The guillotine shutter fires with a metallic snap and the knurled winding dial occasionally slips, gifting you overlapping frames that feel less like mistakes and more like the camera's editorial opinion.
